Biography:
Houria Niati, an Algerian painter, singer and poet was born in 1948 in Khemis Miliana, near Algiers, the capital of Algeria. Education: She earned a diploma in community work specializing in visual arts and music and later she received her degree from the National School of Tixeraine in Algeria in 1969.  Houria Niati has been living and working in London since 1979, where she studied drawing at the Camden Art Center and received a degree in Fine Arts from the Croydon College of Art.

Work experience:
Ms. Niati started her career featuring her paintings and installations in several group exhibitions such as the "Forces of Change" and "Artists of the Arab World" as well as solo exhibitions at the Rochan Gallery and the Small Mansion Art Center Gallery in Algeria, France and the United Arab Emirates which were often accompanied with Algerian songs from a classical Andalusian repertoire and her own poetry which was written in French. Some of Houria's famous works include: the "Dialogue of the Present Contemporary Arab Women's Art" (1999), "4X4" (1991) and "Bringing Water from the Fountain Has Nothing Romantic About It". In 1984, Houria Niati became the First Artist in Residence at Riverside Studios, London.

Houria Niati was chosen because she is a multitalented artist who invaded the world with her influential work and her sensitivity to expose the Algerian people's suffering in a very artistic and creative way.
